Hearts of Oak had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Legon Cities in their 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL) match-day 18 clash Saturday after conceding an equaliser in stoppage time.
Despite struggling with the playing field in their short trip to the El-Wak Stadium, the Phobians were the dominant side.
Coach Samuel Boadu’s men deservedly took the lead after 12 minutes with big signing Sulley Muntari bagging his first assist in his fourth match.
The star midfielder delivered a corner kick which went straight to an unmarked Isaac Mensah to head home the opening goal at far post.
Hearts went on to create many opportunities for more goals in both halves – often denied by agile Cities keeper William Essu.
But Hearts were left to rue their misses when it all looked the three points had been sealed.
Midway into 4 minutes of added time, youngster Osman Amadu – who came on in the 53rd minute to replace winger Nassiru Hamzah – took advantage of slack defending by left-back Dennis Korsah inside the Hearts box to hit the ball past goalkeeper Richard Attah.
Hearts were forced to accept one point rather than three courtesy Osman’s late equaliser, denying the defending champions the chance to secure their first three points in four straight matches and further denting their bid for a successful title defence.
Legon Cities are now on 22 points from 18 games. Hearts, meanwhile, have also amassed 27 points.
Hearts defender Dennis Korsah was adjudged NASCO man-of-the-match.
