2023/24 GPL: Asante Kotoko earns point at Medeama

Asante Kotoko picked a point from their match-week 28 away fixture with a 1-1 scoreline against Medeama in the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League.

At the Akoon Park, the Reds looked to continue their league display with another victory after defeating league leaders Samartex in match-week 27 but their hosts fought back to share the spoils.

Lineups:
Steven Mukwala and Justice Blay returned to the lineup for Asante Kotoko after missing the last game.

Medeama’s lineup had usual goalkeeper Felix Kyei in the posts while Nurudeen Abdulai led the defence.

It was Steven Dese Mukwala who notched the first goal of the game in the 22nd minute as he connected well to Baba Yahaya’s cross.

The Porcupines held on and finished the first half with the lead but Medeama looked rejuvenated and intense in the second half and as a result, they had their leveller.

Osaah Bernadino Tetteh got fouled in Kotoko’s 18-yard box and prolific attacker Diawisie Taylor score the resulting penalty kick in the 57th minute.

For the next 30 minutes of the encounter, the two outfits were unimpressive in attack and the game settled with a point for each side.

Kotoko will return to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for their next GPL clash – Legon Cities as they keep the 11th position in the standings and await Hearts of Oak’s result against Accra Lions.

On the other hand, Medeama, 7th on the league log, head to Great Olympics for match-week 29.
