Repeat or Revenge: Kotoko hosts Dreams FC in GPL Match day 23

The Ghana Premier league continues this weekend across the eight league centres of the country with Match day 23 and one of them will be at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium where Kumasi Asante Kotoko hosts Dreams FC.

This will be the second time the two sides will be meeting after the Porcupine warriors got what could be the fastest goal of the 2015/16 league season (1’) from Dauda Mohammed at the Dawu Park 0n match day 8.

Dreams FC who are debutants in the top flight have however managed to secure vital points which has ensured their current position on the league log – 4th with 35 points from 22 games.

Now the highlight of this game will be how Dreams FC will ensure the second meeting will earn them at least a point to ensure their top four vision is still secured while the struggling record champions will have to get all the three points if they still habour any dream of winning the league.

The Kweiman club have won three of their last five games with the biggest being their 4-0 demolishing of the 2010/11 premier league winners Berekum Chelsea with goals coming from Abeiku Ainooson, Michael Sarpong (2x) and Emmanuel Eli Keke.

Kotoko on other hand have not recorded any win in their last five games with their last two games at home ending in a 1-1 draw with rivals Hearts of Oak and a goalless with Bechem United.

Coach of Dreams FC CK Akunnor at a pre-match presser Thursday says kotoko’s performance in their last few games will affect their confidence level.

“The mentality like I said earlier is that, we’ve gained confidence, we’ve played well in our previous matches. Kotoko have not played well.”

And he has asked that his players enjoy themselves on Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

“No pressure, go and do well, pass the ball enjoy the game and then we’ll see what happens at the end of the game.”

The last five games have seen Dreams conceding 4 goals and scoring 8 goals while Kotoko have done the reverse, conceding 8 goals and scoring 4 goals.

Dreams FC players took to the beach earlier this week as they push to get in shape for Sunday’s trip to Kumasi. Kotoko also stepped up training at the Adako Jachie Park to ensure a better performance come Sunday.

Dreams will be counting on their star men Michael Sarpong and Eric Gawu who have replaced departed Lawson Bekui so well in their recent games to get the three points from Kumasi.

Kotoko who are sweating over the fitness of goal keeper Ernest Sowah will hope he makes it on Sunday and also get a full house for the match.

Coach Michael Osei’s job is cut out for him as many of the Red’s supporters have asked for his job or be provided with a technical advisor. he has Sunday to prove he can do the job.

The question getting into the game, will be whether Kotoko can repeat what they did at the Dawu Park or it will be the newcomers’ time to revenge.
