GPL match day 23 PREVIEW: WAFA-Hearts open tricky round

The Ghana Premier League enters match day 23 as the chase for the newly unveiled league trophy and battle for survival gets keener. 

Two of the fixtures will be televised this weekend.

First of the two matches to be televised will see leaders Hearts of Oak travel to Sogakope to play WAFA Saturday afternoon. The Phobians are in search of maximum points to maintain their top spot. The first round game between the two sides ended in a 1-1 stalemate with a lot of controversies. Notable of them being time wasting from the Academy boys and a red card to departed Samuel Tetteh.

All Stars who leapfrogged Aduana Stars to second place on the log after their 1-0 victory over Medeama SC in their week 21 outstanding fixture on Wednesday, will play hosts to relegation threatened Bechem United who lie 13th.

The second of the two live games this weekend will see 14th placed Inter Allies battle Medeama SC at the Tema Stadium on Sunday. The Mauves and Yellows who lost all their three outstanding games still lie sixth on the standings. They seek to find remedy for their poor form against the Eleven Is To One who are in the relegation zone.

At the Len Clay Stadium, defending Champions Ashantigold SC will welcome bottom placed Edubiase in the Adansi derby. Coming from a 2-1 victory over Asante Kotoko at home on match day 22, Abdul Salam’s men will have to secure at least a point to enhance their chances of survival in top flight of Ghanaian club football.

Techiman City at the Den, will host Ebusua Dwarfs. Dwarfs who have recorded stirring results in recent games will have to be better than their usual selves to gain anything appreciable from the Citizens who are indomitable at home.

At Berekum, Liberty Professionals who exited the FA Cup – losing 3-2 on penalties to Okwahu United – will play guests to Chelsea. The Blues underwent a humiliating 4-0 defeat away to Dreams FC on match day 22 but the scientific soccer lads wounded after the FA Cup exit will want to consulate themselves with good results on return from the Golden City Park.

Sekondi Hasaacas were hammered 4-0 by Liberty Professionals in week 22 and they will play at the comfort of the Essipong Stadium. They will welcome the league’s highest scoring and third placed side Aduana Stars who led by top scorer Yahaya Mohammed, won by 1-0 in their outstanding league fixture against Medeama in Tarkwa.

The final fixture will be at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi as Asante Kotoko with all their in-house mayhem seek a second victory in eight second round games. The Porcupines who lie fifth and within reach of winning the championship play debutants Dreams FC. Fourth placed Dreams with their 4-0 thrashing of Chelsea in their last league match anticipate a revenge, after losing by 1-0 to Kotoko in the first round fixture.
