Niger’s coach Badou Zaki is optimistic about his team’s chances of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Despite being drawn in a challenging group with Ghana, Angola, and Sudan Zaki is confident his team can make the finals of the AFCON.
The Nigeriens, aiming for their third AFCON appearance, face tough competition. In an interview with CAFonline.com, Zaki assessed their opponents:
“We’re in an affordable group with a good chance of qualifying. Ghana has great professionals, but they’re not as strong as they were 5-6 years ago. They can even lose at home,” Zaki stated.
Niger will play Sudan and Ghana in their first two qualifiers in September 2024. Zaki’s confidence is evident as he seeks to lead the Mena to their first AFCON since 2013.
Niger previously competed in the 2012 and 2013 editions. Despite the challenges, Zaki’s positive outlook and preparation suggest Niger could make a strong showing in the qualifiers.
Notably, Ghana will face Sudan, now coached by former Black Stars manager Kwesi Appiah, adding intrigue to Group F as Ghana pursues its 25th AFCON appearance.
