Sweden: Michael Baidoo scores and assists in Elfsborg’s season opener

Ghana midfielder Michael Baidoo delivered a goal and an assist for Elfsborg, but his team relinquished a two-goal lead, resulting in a 2-2 draw against Varnamo in their 2024 Swedish Allsvenskan opener on Monday.

The 24-year-old set the tone early by scoring just 11 minutes into the match at Boras Arena, showcasing his skill with a deft finish amidst a congested penalty area after receiving a setup from Andri Fannar Baldursson.

Following his opener, Baidoo turned provider, assisting Simon Hedlund in doubling Elfsborg’s lead 17 minutes later.

Nonetheless, Varnamo initiated a comeback late in the first half when Wenderson Oliveira scored, thanks to Ajdin Zeljkovic’s assist, narrowing the gap.

The comeback was completed 11 minutes into the second half, with Zeljkovic finding the net to level the scoreline at 2-2.

Elfsborg’s lineup also featured full matches from Ghanaians Jalal Abdulai and Terry Yegbe, marking four Ghanaians’ participation in the match.

Frank Adjei appeared briefly for Varnamo, adding to the Ghanaian presence on the field.
