2023/24 Caf CC: Dreams FC overturn deficit to claim first-leg advantage at Stade Malien

Dreams FC mounted an impressive comeback to secure a 2-1 victory over Stade Malien in the first leg of their 2023/24 Caf Confederation Cup quarterfinals on Sunday in Bamako, propelled by a double from veteran striker John Antwi.

The hosts seized the lead in the 53rd minute when Yoro Diaby scored, signaling a potential triumph at their stronghold, Stade du 26 Mars.

Yet, the tournament debutants from Ghana showcased another masterstroke of resilience and tactical acumen to overturn the deficit.

Antwi dramatically changed the course of the game for the visitors with two goals in quick succession.

The ex-Ahly star netted the equalizer in the 66th minute and then followed up with a decisive penalty goal in the 71st, silencing the home supporters and clinching a vital away win for Dreams FC.

Despite Stade Malien’s determined efforts to equalize, the ‘Still Believe’ lads’ defense remained unyielding, preserving a 2-1 advantage as the game ended.

The second leg, highly awaited, will take place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on April 7.

Dreams FC aims to maintain their lead and advance to the semifinals, building on their historic campaign.
