I plan to separate the Youth and Sports Ministry – John Mahama

Former Ghana President John Dramani Mahama has planned to reorganize the Youth and Sports Ministry if he wins the 2024 General Elections in the  December polls.

The National Democratic Congress(NDC) candidate wants to form a Sports Ministry separate from the Youth Ministry rather than the known-combined government organization for the past 15 years.

During the launch of his party’s youth wing, the NDC flagbearer emphasized the need for a change in the Ministry’s operational structure.

“We are going to separate Youth and Sports. Over the years, the focus has been predominantly on sports, particularly on the Black Stars, neglecting other sporting events.”

Mahama further outlined his plan to establish a dedicated service for Youth Development.

In a recent parliamentary address, Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif disclosed that Ghana had exceeded $3 million in expenses during the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire within a span of 10 days.

The government budgeted $5 million dollars for the tourney.

This amount surpassed Ghana’s entire sports budget for 2023, which stood at $29,878,677.23.
