#FootyTransfers: Lille targeting Ghana’s Alidu Seidu

French top-tier side LOSC Lille are reportedly chasing the signature of Ghana international Alidu Seidu.

Emerging from the intense competition of Ligue 1’s most recent season, the defender, a budding talent, is currently under the scrutinising gaze of myriad football clubs. This comes as a result of his extraordinary display of aptitude during his first season as a starter for Clermont Foot, a feat that has not gone unnoticed.

As reported by La Voix du Nord, Les Dogues are notably interested in bringing him to the north of France. The departure of José Fonte coupled with Tiago Djaló’s ACL injury has opened a window of opportunity.

Seidu, 23, is being considered to compete for a starting position alongside Leny Yoro and the newly signed Samuel Umtiti.

In June 2022, Seidu was summoned to represent his homeland, a commendable recognition of his outstanding inaugural season in the upper echelons of French football. His advent on the international stage was marked by a friendly against Japan, a contest that unfortunately culminated in a 4-1 setback for Ghana.

He later made his competitive debut at the World Cup in Qatar, playing as a right-back in losses against Portugal and Uruguay. Unfortunately for the Black Stars, they were eliminated in the group stage, resulting in a less-than-stellar tournament.

Back at Clermont Foot, Seidu has consistently stood out under Pascal Gastien’s management. Not only is he an exceptional tackler, but he also demonstrates an acute sense of positioning, placing him among the league’s top interceptors, with 1.90 per 90 according to FBREF.

Moreover, Gastien’s methodology has allowed Seidu to develop a commendable control of the ball, exhibiting impressive numbers in take-ons, progressive carries, and progressive passes received. As such, he could very well align with Paulo Fonseca’s possession-focused style.
