Medeama part ways with David Duncan after 112 days

The 59-year-old coach won one and lost four in five games.

Coach David Duncan has left Medeama SC by mutual consent, the Ghana Premier League (GPL) outfit announced Thursday.

When the Mauve and Yellow announced his contract on September 9, the 59-year-old ex-Asante Kotoko trainer had been away from club football for 6 years, 3 months, and 8 days.

It however took him only three months and twenty-one days to get out of the Tarkwa club.

The first match Duncan supervised as Medeama coach saw the club beat RTU 3-2 but he lost the next four (to Berekum Chelsea, Aduana FC, Great Olympics and Asante Kotoko). He then took a leave of absence just before their match-day 7 trip to Bibiani GoldStars and never returned to the post.

A club statement read:

“Medeama Sporting Club and Head Coach David Duncan today parted company on mutual ground.

“Duncan joined the Mauve and Yellow in September 2022, signing a one-year contract.

“However, circumstances mean both parties have reached an agreement to go separate ways after four months.

“The experienced gaffer supervised five Ghana Premier League matches during his tenure.

“On behalf of everyone at Medeama SC, the Club would like to place on record its gratitude to David Duncan for his efforts during his time with the club and wish him well in his future endeavour.

“There will be no further comment.”

Assistant coach Umar Abdul Rabi – who led Medeama to an opening-day win at Legon Cities and also kept them unbeaten in three games (D-W-D) in Duncan’s absence – is expected to continue in his interim role.
