REVEALED: Bright Adjei rejects CHAN 2022 with Ghana to focus on January transfer

Due to a January transfer out of the Ghana Premier League, Aduana FC captain Bright Adjei has declined the opportunity to represent his country in the 2022 Championship of African Nations (CHAN).

The striker was part of the 40 players who began the Black Galaxies’ preparations for the upcoming tournament in Algeria.

Adjei even scored in the side’s 2-1 friendly win over Hearts of Oak on December 11.

But he refused to travel with the team to Egypt for their ongoing pre-tournament training camp.

Footy-Ghana.com sources have confirmed that Adjei informed the team’s handlers of his withdrawal in light of a transfer offer he was keen on seeing materialise.

Despite this, the 28-year-old was announced as part of coach Annor Walker’s 25-player squad for the trip to Cairo.

On Christmas Eve, Adjei did not travel with the Galaxies, and there was no update from the GFA regarding his absence.

Per indications from the player’s camp, participating in CHAN 2022 could scupper his move – to an unnamed Tanzanian club. This is because the transfer window will have closed by the time the competition ends on February 4, 2023.

Bright Adjei – who has 5 goals in 9 games in the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League – is expected to feature when leaders Aduana FC host second-placed Asante Kotoko on New Year’s Day.
