U.S push for October friendly against Ghana

Ghana and the United States could be facing off again as it emerges that the latter is angling for a friendly date in Washington during the October international break.

According to ESPN, the U.S. Soccer Federation is finalizing plans for the USMNT to face the Black Stars on October 11 in Washington D.C.

The teams, who have developed a strong rivalry on the international stage, would meet at the RFK Stadium just four days after the U.S. takes on CONCACAF side Cuba in Havana.

“We’re working on a second October game,” U.S. Soccer spokesman Neil Buethe confirmed to ESPNFC.com on Monday.

“But nothing has been finalized yet,” he added.

The Black Stars have met the United States thrice, all in the last three Fifa World Cup finals, with the African giants winning two of the encounters.

A similar friendly between the sides was on the cards last year but those plans fell though.

The international friendly, if finalized, will be honored a week after Ghana opens her 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign against Uganda.
