GPL PREVIEW: Adansi Derby – A fight for survival

The 2015/16 Ghana Premier League will be continuing after a weekend of break on Wednesday and it promises to live up to its billing with interesting fixtures.

The match day 8 will see the fiercest Adansi Derby come up at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium as New Edubiase United engages Ashanti Gold FC in what is being described as the Battle for Survival.

Defending champions Ashgold has had a downward spiral in the league – winning just a game from seven (7) games securing a paltry seven (7) points from a possible twenty- one (21).

New Edubiase on the other hand is lying 15th on the league log with 6 points from one (1) win, three (3) drawn ganes and three (3) losses.

Both the Adansi clubs will be going into this clash with the hope of bagging all the three points to reverse their fortunes in the league.

In their 12 recent meetings in the Premier League, Ashgold has dominated New Edubiase by winning seven (7) of those games with the latter winning only 3 and two ending in a draw.

The 2012 FA Cup champions have the bragging rights of ending Ashgold’s 9-match unbeaten streak in the 2013/2014 league season with a  2-0 win at the Bekwai Gyamfi Park on match day 10.

New Edubiase are unbeaten at home in fourteen matches of the Ghana Premier League with their last defeat coming from a 2-3 scoreline against Ashgold.

Ashgold is heading to this game with some off the pitch issues but will seek to at least, salvage a draw at their favourite Len Clay Stadium – a shared home venue for both teams while New Edubiase will be confident ahead of this game after getting a draw at Sogakope in match day 7.

Captain Eric Opoku and his charges will have to work hard to get a good results to pacify their fans.

It’s the Adansi derby, clash of the titans and a battle for the three points that will lift any of the struggling sides from the relegation zone in the Ghana Premier League.
