NEW DATE: PLB propose January 10 start for 2015/16 GPL

The new Ghana Premier League could be set for a January 10, 2016 start date, footy-Ghana.com has been informed.

With the initial tentative December 20 date set for the new season to begin looking more and more not feasible, the Premier League Board (PLB), recently met and have resolved on the new date to be tabled to the Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association for ratification.

The Ghana FA has been faced with challenges from boardroom contentions from the 2014/15 season of which when not solved, the start of a new season will be impossible. There have been issues with promotions from Zones 1 and 3 of the Division One League whose cases remain unresolved by the judicial bodies.

In a recent interview, Nana Benyin Eyison, one of the new members of the Ghana FA Executive Committee, gave strong hints the new season looked a huge doubt to start at the December 20 proposed date due to the unresolved cases.

The start of the 2015/16 season has always been in doubt especially after last month’s Ordinary Congress of the Ghana FA also failed to announce the promotion and demotion of clubs which usually heralds preparations to start a new season.

It remains to be seen if the Executive Committee at its next meeting, will ratify the new January 10 date to kick start the 2015/16. Already, the transfer window has been opened with clubs officially in the player registration process.
