REVEALED: AshGold block TP Mazembe approach for Osei Baffour

Ghanaian champions AshantiGold have blocked an approach by Congo giants TP Mazembe for the services of rising star Emmanuel Osei Baffour, can reveal.

The newly crowned African champions recently showed serious interest in the playmaker with reliable sources confirming that the club owner, Moise Katumbi, was deeply involved in a high-placed lobbying through a top official of the Ghana FA to convince the Miners into selling their prized man.

But AshantiGold after already losing four key players (Yakubu Mohammed, Bernard Morrison, Didier Kore and Larence Lartey) to foreign clubs are in no mood to lose another player, most especially due to their up-coming campaign in the CAF Champions League.

The Footy-Ghana source said: “There is truth in recent rumours that TP Mazembe want to buy Emmanuel Osei Baffour which we have declined. The club president approached our CEO Kudjo Fianoo through a very top official at the Ghana FA but it has been completely rejected.”

“Our financiers Anglogold Ashanti have asked us to ensure that we keep all our top players as they expect us to do very well in Africa. The club is already working to extend the contracts of some of the top players. As for Osei Baffour, he is going nowhere this season. He just ended his debut season and has more years left in his contract with us.”

The diminutive attacker only got promoted from the club’s Academy just last season and really grabbed his chance.

Osei Baffour’s impressive outings last term earned him places in the Black Meteors and Local Black Stars teams respectively.
