AWCON 2016: Queens hungry for Nigeria – Samira

Former Hasaacas Ladies forward Samira Suleman has made clear the Black Queens’ intentions for the 2016 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.

The senior national female team will join their counterparts from across Africa for the event which is about a month away.

Ghana is in the same group as Africa women football powerhouse Nigeria, Mali and Kenya. Nigeria who are the defending champions have the record of 9 titles and have on three occasions edged out Ghana to become champions (1998, 2002 and 2006) but Samira Suleman is unperturbed by the threat they pose.

“We will beat Nigeria. I’m telling you, we will beat them. It’s been a while since we played Nigeria, personally I am hungry for them”.

The Víkingur Ólafsvík forward wants the team to improve on their recent success story – the gold triumph at the 2015 All Africa Games.

“It’s our aim that we are going for the gold. We’ve won All Africa Games and so we want to win the Africa Cup of Nations so that it will sum up”, she told Joy Sports.

The team is currently getting ready for the tournament at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence.

The 2016 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations begins November 19.
