Newcastle boss Benitez lauds Atsu arrival

Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez has hailed the loan signing of Ghanaian winger Christian Atsu from Chelsea.

The English Championship side signed the ex-Porto player on a one-year deal with an option to make it permanent after the season.

Atsu, who is yet to make a senior debut appearance for Chelsea since signing for the Blues in 2013 has now been loaned for a fifth consecutive time away from the Stamford Bridge.

“I agreed with our fans that we needed to bring in another winger, so I am very happy to welcome Christian to the club,” Benitez is quoted as saying.

“He has good ability and pace in the wide areas and also has good experience of English football.

“He has a different style of play to the other players we have at the moment and that will be important for the squad,” he added.

The 24-year-old will join the team after the international break and will be hoping to see more action at the St. James Park.

He has made 44 appearances for the Black Stars since 2012 and scored nine goals.
