Kotoko to set up fund for retired players

Board Chairman of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Lawyer Paul Adu Gyamfi says the club is planning to set up a fund for their old and retired players.

The issue about how old players of the club are treated has always been one that has been condemned by sections of the supporters and also the media and the Kumasi based side is ready to make amends.

He revealed this plan at the club’s secretariat in an event that marked Kotoko’s 81st anniversary on Wednesday.

The event saw the boss of GHALCA Kojo Fianoo present, management and technical members, the playing body, club’s sponsors, supporters groups, old players including Malik Jabir, Abukari Gariba, Alhaji Yahaya Jibril, Dogo Moro amongst others.

Lawyer Paul Adu Gyamfi explained the aim of the fund is to take care of players who have served Kotoko adding that 1% from gate proceeds and a percentage on all transfer deals will go into the fund.

“After this celebration, we intend to set up a fund for old players and retired players, we intend with the support of management and players to use 1% of our gate proceeds for the welfare of old and retired payers. We also intend with your support to keep 1% of any transfer fee for the support of old players and retired payers”.
