AshGold 0-0 WAFA: Lethargic Miners draw for the 10th time

Champions AshantiGold recorded yet another drawn game, their tenth in 15, to climax the first round of the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League Saturday.

The Miners failed to break the back of Academy boys WAFA SC who put up a spirited display at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi.

WAFA enjoyed tue better of first half possession with Togolese striker Komlan Agbegniadan and Samuel Tetteh come very close to scoing.

Tetteh was well fed with a sublime pass from midfield he raced past two defenders but shot across the face of goal on a one-on-one with AshGold goalie Robert Dabuo.

AshGold took control of the second half while the visitors sat deep in their own half relying on counterbreaks through the pacy Samuel Tetteh and Charles Boateng who was later subbed off.

Youngster Amos Addai, who had seen much of the ball yet disappointed with his touches, often killing off attacking moves, was replaced three minutes into second half.

Mohammed Dauda, after coming on for Addai, had an immediate chance to hand AshGold the lead with a freekick just outside the penalty area but his left-footed feeble effort went straight into the waiting hands of goalkeeper Razak Abalora.

A penalty was awarded AshGoldin the 58th minute after the ball struck the hand of left back Abdul Wahab Ibrahim but Mohammed Dauda who stepped up failed to convert. His kick was palmed back into play by Abalora.

Two more attacking substitutions saw a less impressed coach Bashir Hayford take off Dauda who had barely lasted 28 minutes in the game and replaced him with Isaac Amoah while Frederick Quayson had come on for midfielder Anthony Yerful. The tactical changes did little impact to change the scoreline as the Miners continued their struggle to unlock the WAFA defence.

WAFA enjoyed some occasional breakaways but winger Samuel Tetteh’s final balls often failed him.

AshGold thus failed to win a 7th straight home game in the first half of the 2015/16 season – their 10th draw alongside two wins and three defeats in 15 games played.

The stalemate recorded by WAFA becomes their third drawn game away from home this campaign. They are now on 20 points.

Kotoko vs Techiman City

Dreams FC vs Hearts of Oak

Berekum Chelsea vs Wa All Stars

Hasaacas vs Inter Allies

Aduana Stars vs Bechem United
