GPL: GFA to pre-finance clubs

The Ghana Football Association intends to pre-finance premier league clubs with sponsorship money due them by TV rights holders of the league Supersport, Footy-GHANA.com understands.

South African broadcaster Supersport signed a 3-year deal with the Ghana Football Association in 2013 to broadcast the Ghana Premier League. Supersport has been prompt in the payment of their rights money to the GFA but the money for the new season has yet to be released.

Following the decision of Capital Bank to pull out of sponsoring the league, clubs are in dire need of money.

The FA in a move to manage the situation, according to our sources, is deciding to pay clubs the amount due them by supersport, and then take it from the broadcaster when it’s finally paid.

Supersport’s contract expires in September this year and it’s unclear if they will be willing to renew it.
