Dreams FC coach C.K Akunnor is a happy man after guiding his side to secure full points in their debut game in the Ghanaian topflight.
The Ghana Premier League debutants joined the elite league of few teams as they traveled to stun fellow new entrant Ebusua Dwarfs in front of a packed house at the Robert Mensah Stadium on Sunday.
Coming into this game, the Cape Coast-based club, Dwarfs, were in high spirits to put their visitors to the sword but had themselves to blame after missed chances in front of goal.
Johnson Owusu Oppong’s goal on the 44th minute mark was enough to hand the former Hearts of Oak trainer his first premiership win after he was sacked by the Phobian club in November 2012.
The former Ghana skipper spoke of his delight with the outcome, especially in the first half.
“We are very happy with the results. We played very well in the first and dominated the game. We are very impressed with the first half,” Akunnor said after the match.
Akunnor however admitted that his side’s second half display was below par.
“We were not happy with second half and need to improve. As you know, we are a newly promoted team and so the tendency of inexperience [will count] so we are learning. We will correct our mistakes; we will talk about it [in a] very open discussion and look forward to the coming games.”
Akunnor pointed out that the team is still inexperienced and will be extremely happy if their premiership status is maintained at the end of the league.
“We are new team, inexperience and don’t know much [about the system] so we will be very happy to stay in the league. Whatever comes aside will be a bonus.”
Dreams FC will welcome fellow premiership club Bechem United at the Dawu Park on match day two next weekend.
