2019/20 GPL: AshantiGold pip Dwarfs to end 3-game winless run

AshantiGold bounced back from their recent miserable run with a 1-0 win over Ebusua Dwarfs on match-day 7 of the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League Sunday.

The Miners – marked title favourites – got their season off to a perfect start with three straight wins but their ensuing three ended up being a draw and back-to-back defeats to Berekum Chelsea and Medeama.

New coach Kasim Gökyildiz, taking full charge of the team following the completion of his paperwork, managed to lead AshantiGold and reignite their title charge courtesy returnee defender Samed Ibrahim’s strike at the Len Clay Stadium.

AshantiGold toiled before the only goal of the match arrived after 75 minutes via centre-back Ibrahim. That was moments after goalkeeper Razak Issah pullet yet another stupendous save to deny Appiah McCarthy from scoring from a free-kick.

Ebusua Dwarfs made strong attempts to come back but the scoreline remained 1-0 till the final whistle.

AshantiGold, now on 13 points, next face Hearts of Oak in Accra on Thursday, February 6 while Ebusua Dwarfs, who have managed just a win in 7 games, host league leaders Aduana Stars a day earlier.
