Gyan heads winner on NorthEast United home debut

Ghana star Asamoah Gyan scored his first Indian Super League (ISL) goal on his home debut and clinched victory for new club NorthEast United Saturday.

The Highlanders labored to beat Odisha FC 2-1 at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati.

NorthEast United drew first blood when Redeem Tlang scored the quickest goal of the season so far in just the second minute of the match.

The visitors equalized through Xisco Hernandez in the 71st minute before seeing defender Carlos Delgado get sent off two minutes later for a bad tackle.

Northeast United managed to make their numerical advantage count through Gyan who popped up at the end of Lalthathanga Khawlhring’s corner with a header six minutes from time.

The former Ghana captain’s goal was enough to hand his side their first win of the season.

NorthEast move to the top of the 2019/20 ISL table with 4 points from two matches.
