Mali: Ghana’s World Cup qualifiers opponent sack head coach Eric Sékou Chelle

The Malian Football Federation(FEMAFOOT) has announced the dismissal of national team coach Eric Sekou Chelle on Thursday evening.

In a statement signed by the 1st Vice President Silvain Diakhite on Thursday, June 13, 2024, the Eagles gaffer’s tenure ends after the recent results in the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.

Mali lost 2-1 to Ghana in Bamako and a draw against Madagascar has necessitated the dismissal.

Chelle led the Eagles to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations where they suffered elimination in the quarter finals from eventual winners, Cote D’Ivoire.

FEMAFOOT will announce a new head coach for the team as they await their group opponents from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification draw to be held on July 4.
