2023/24 CafCL: Al Ahly make light work of Medeama SC in Kumasi

Ghanaian champions Medeama SC lost 0-1 to Al Ahly in their 2023/24 Caf Champions League group stage clash in Kumasi.

The Friday evening fixture at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium produced a triumph for the Egyptian giants after Hussein El Shahat netted in the second half.

Medeama failed to restore parity, thereby gifting the visitors the win to increase their points tally to nine after five games.

The Yellow and Mauve set out for victory without star man Jonathan Sowah who has left for Al Nassr in Libya.

Ahly coach Marcel Koller kept faith in Anthony Modeste to lead the attack while Yasser Ibrahim and Mohammed AbdelMoneim held the defensive line.

In the first half, Medeama looked the much livelier side to grab the lead but they struggled to beat the experienced defence of Ahly.

After the half time break, the Champions League record holders showed quality in the game, finding their rhythm and dictating the tempo of the clash.

It was through one of their attacking moves on the flanks that resulted in the goal from El Shahat for the win.

Ahly then closed the game despite all the attacking moves by Medeama who looked pale and immature in attack.

The Ghanaians travel to Algeria for their final group game against CR Belouizdad while Ahly play Young Africans.
