2023/24 Caf CL: Medeama gets battered by Young Africans

Medeama SC have been thrashed 3-0 by Young Africans in their 2023/24 Caf Champions League group stage game on Wednesday afternoon.

At the Benjamin Nkapa Stadium in Dar-es-Salaam, the Tanzanian giants transformed their campaign to the right path by overcoming Medeama as they matched on to five points since losing to CR Beliouzdad in their first group game.

The Ghanaian champions envisaged at least a draw ahead of the clash but they got hurt in the first half by midfielder Jacques Pacome Zouzoua in the 33rd minute and that was all for the first half.

After the halftime break, Medeama were awarded a penalty in the 55th minute, and Jonathan Sowah missed.

The hosts then extended their grip on the duel through Bakari Nondo in the 61st minute.

Yanga compounded matters for their guests as Mudathir Yahya made it 3-0 in the 66th minute.

Down by a three-goal margin, Medeama struggled to arrive in attacking positions for a consolation goal but Yanga dictated the tempo of the duel as they protected the score.

In the closing stages, Jonathan Sowah’s unimpressive display against the Tanzanians was capped off with a red card in the 90th minute.

The Mauve and Yellow will play Al Ahly in their next group-stage match.
