Iñaki Williams: ‘It’s not been easy, but I’ll strive to score for Ghana against Mexico’

Iñaki Williams is determined to break his international goal drought as he prepares to represent Ghana in Saturday night’s friendly against Mexico in the United States.

The 29-year-old, who switched his nationality from Spain to Ghana in September 2022, eagerly anticipates finding the back of the net for his motherland.

Since making the decision to represent Ghana, Iñaki has played in nine games without scoring a goal.

He is a Number 9: Hughton backs Iñaki Williams’ role amidst lack of goals for Ghana

As the Black Stars get ready to face Mexico at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, the in-form Athletic Bilbao forward places great importance on scoring his debut goal for Ghana.

Iñaki told 3Sports, “It’s a very important match for us. I think all Ghanaians support us. I am going to do everything in this match to score my first goal.”

While he acknowledges the challenge of adapting to the team, Inaki remains determined and enthusiastic.

He explained, “It is not easy for me because I have not played a lot of matches with my teammates, but this is football, and I enjoy the game.

“I will go into the game to do everything possible to get my first goal.”

Ironically, in the LaLiga this season, Iñaki Williams has scored four goals in nine games, boosting his confidence as he seeks to replicate his scoring success for his homeland.

Ghana has never defeated Mexico in a football match, and Black Stars coach Chris Hughton hopes to change that statistic this time.

The match kicks off at 20:30 ET on Saturday, October 14 (00:30 GMT/Sunday).
