2023/24 UECL: Baba Rahman stars with vital assist as PAOK claim 3-2 road win

Ghanaian international Baba Rahman continued his impressive run in the 2023/24 Uefa Europa Conference League (UECL) by providing a crucial assist that propelled PAOK Thessaloniki to a thrilling 3-2 away victory against Finnish side HJK Helsinki on Thursday.

The 29-year-old defender’s transition to Greece has been seamless, establishing himself as one of the league’s standout full-backs this season.

HJK Helsinki seized an early lead in the first half, courtesy of a 35th-minute strike by Boureima Hassane Bandé.

However, the visitors demonstrated resilience by leveling the score ten minutes into the second half, with defender Konstantinos Koulierakis finding the back of the net.

Baba Rahman then emerged as the catalyst in the 81st minute, delivering a perfectly executed cross that located Kiril Despodov. The Bulgarian forward made no mistake, capitalizing on Rahman’s pinpoint pass to give PAOK a 2-1 lead.

In the closing moments of the match, two more goals added to the excitement. Brandon extended PAOK’s advantage to 3-1 in the fourth minute of added time, while HJK Helsinki’s Bojan Radulović converted a penalty five minutes later following a VAR review.

PAOK’s 3-2 triumph in this fixture elevates them to the top of Group G, surpassing German side Eintracht Frankfurt, who secured a victory against Scottish team Aberdeen in the other group match, thanks to a superior goal difference.
