VIDEO: Afriyie Barnieh breaks FC Zurich duck with brace against Lugano

Former Hearts of Oak striker Daniel Afriyie Barnieh broke his Swiss Super League duck with a brace as FC Zurich saw off FC Lugano 3-0 on Saturday.

The 22-year-old’s stunning display at the Letzigrund Stadium was a key contributor to FC Zurich’s win, with his impressive 68th-minute goal setting the tone for the 2023/24 season’s match-day 3 fixture.

In the 76th minute, Barnieh notched his second goal, seizing the ball from a Lugano defender to double FC Zurich’s lead.

The match was further highlighted by Congolese winger Jonathan Okita’s goal in the 80th minute, rounding off an unforgettable day for FC Zurich.

These were Barnieh’s first goals since his move to FC Zurich in January 2023. He had a challenging start, spending much of his initial season with the reserve team.

However, the current season has seen a marked turnaround in Barnieh’s fortunes. After scoring a few goals in the preseason, he’s continued to display impressive form.

So far, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh has started all three league games as the central forward for FC Zurich, clocking up 69, 68, and 85 minutes of playtime respectively.

Currently, FC Zurich sits atop the Swiss Super League standings, with a commendable 7 points from their first three matches.
