CHAN 2022 preps: Black Galaxies beat Al Ahly with second-half comeback

Ghana’s Black Galaxies registered a 3-1 come-from-behind victory against Egyptian giants Al Ahly in a behind-closed-doors match at Mokhtar El-Tetsh Stadium in Cairo Saturday afternoon.

Having beaten the Egypt U-20s last Tuesday, coach Annor Walker’s side had to test their strength against a stronger opponent in the record African champions as final preparations for the upcoming 2022 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) in Algeria next month intensify.

Ahly – who fielded a mix of players from the youth team and reserves from the seniors – took the lead in the first half courtesy of a Tariq Zaid effort.

At the start of the second half, coach Annor Walker made changes and it paid off.

Centre-back Solomon Adomako levelled the scores just minutes after coming on for Henry Ansu.

And Ghana then took a 2-1 lead with a penalty converted by Daniel Barnieh in the 76th minute. This was after another substitute – striker Abdul Razak Yusif – was fouled in the Ahly box.

Ten minutes from time, Yusif scored with a sweet connection to a cross from right-back Augustine Agyapong who had come off the bench for namesake Agustine Randolph.

The Black Galaxies will wrap up their Cairo camping and head to Constantine, Algeria early next week.

Ghana line-up:

Iddrisu Abdulai/Danlad Ibrahim – Augustine Randolph/Augustine Agyapong, Dennis Korsah/Benjamin Abaidoo, Konadu Yiadom/Sherif Mohammed, Henry Ansu/Solomon Adomako – Dominic Nsobila, David Abagna, Gladson Awako/Kwame Otu, Sylvester Simba – Kofi Kordzi/Abdul Razak Yussif, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh/Augustine Boakye
