2022/23 Ghana Premier League to start September 9

The new GPL season will be 51 days earlier than the 2021/22 campaign won by Asante Kotoko started.

The 2022/23 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season will begin on the weekend of September 9/10/11/12.

This follows the approval of the plan for the upcoming football season by the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), reads a release Thursday.

The new season’s start will thus be 51 days earlier than the 2021/22 campaign won by Asante Kotoko started.

The Champion of Champions – a Cup tie between the league and FA Cup winners from the 2021/22 season – to usher in the new campaign has been confirmed for September 4 at a yet-to-be-determined venue.

The fixtures for the new Premier League season will be released by Tuesday, July 26.

That is some 46 days clear to kickoff “to enable clubs to prepare adequately for the season.”

Dates for registration of players in the Premier League clubs, Division One League and the Women’s Premier League have already been communicated.

2022/23 Ghana Football Season: Transfer window opens July 1 for 7 weeks

According to the GFA, the 2022/23 calendar will make room for a break in November and December 2022 for Fifa World Cup in Qatar as required by Fifa for all qualified Member Associations.

Dates for the start of the Division One League and Women’s Premier League will be announced soon, the GFA added.
