Midfielder Kennedy Ashia is back in the Ghana Premier League. And he returns with AshantiGold, a club he snubbed for a foreign move almost six years ago.
In November 2015, the Miners thought they had beaten off competition from Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak to the services of the 2013 bronze-winning Ghana U-20 squad member who had decided to leave Liberty Professionals after a four-year stint:
“We have secured Ashia’s release letter from Liberty and he is expected to arrive to complete his personal terms and medicals with us,” the Miners’ spokesperson at the time, Kofi Yawson had told Footy-Ghana.com.
But Ashia swerved the Len Clay Stadium outfit who had at the time won the Ghana Premier League to sign a free-agent deal with Sudanese giants Al Hilal.

His stay in Sudan was however short – six months into a two-year contract, the Hilal deal was terminated.
Ashia went on to enjoy a season’s spell with AC Tripoli in Lebanon before returning to Africa – specifically Ethiopia in September 2017.
He played for Sidama Bunna for one season and then joined Iraqi side Darbandikhan in 2019. Later that year, Ashia returned to Ethiopia with Welwalo Adigrat for a season.

AshantiGold announced the signing of the former SK Brann loanee (2013) Saturday.
The 27-year-old attacking midfielder signed a two-year contract for his comeback to the domestic game.

AshantiGold earlier announced the arrival of Aminu Adams (midfielder), Abdul Salam (striker) and Joseph Amoah (midfielder) to augment their squad for the upcoming 2021/22 season.
