Official: Kennedy Ashia’s Hilal contract terminated

Ghana’s Kennedy Ashia has left Sudanese giants Al Hilal by mutual consent.

The attacking midfielder brought his stint at the club to an end after signing to a contract termination agreement today (Thursday, May 18), six months into a two-year deal signed on November 17 last year.

News of an impending end to the contract relationship emerged late April via a post by Hilal’s Facebook page but the move was aborted after the club’s President announced at the introduction of new coach Illie Balaci on April 29 that the Romanian tactician has been tasked to take his own decisions after assuming duties at the beginning of May.

Fast forward three weeks, it appears the 20-year-old former Liberty Professionals kingpin has failed to impress authorities at Hilal as the club officially announced parting ways Thursday evening.

The former U-20 World Cup star becomes the fifth foreign player after compatriots Abeiku Ainooson and Nelson Ladzagla, Ivorian Cheikh Moukoro and Souleymane Cisse whose contracts have been terminated in recent months.

Ashia, who scored 11 goals for Liberty in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) last season, has an opportunity to make a quick move back in the GPL as the second transfer window is still open and would shut on May 30.
