2019 AfconQ: Gyan, 10 others return for Ghana vs Sierra Leone

Kayserispor duo Asamoah Gyan and Bernard Mensah are among a host of players making a return in Ghana’s 23-man squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double header against Sierra Leone.

Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah decided to maintain only 12 members of his last squad that suffered defeat to Kenya in September while recalling 11 others who missed out ahead of the October 11 and 15 encounters.

The players making a return to the Black Stars team include Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Felix Annan, John Boye, Lumor Agbenyenu, Jonathan Mensah, Mubarak Wakaso, Nana Ampomah, Thomas Agyepong, Emmanuel Boateng, Richmond Boakye Yiadom, Bernard Mensah and skipper Asamoah Gyan.

Team schedule

The Black Stars will open camp in Kumasi on Monday, October 8.

Ghana hosts Sierra Leone in their third game of Group F of the 2019 Afcon qualifiers at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on the 11th. Kickoff is at 1600 GMT.

For the reverse fixture, the team will depart Accra for Freetown in the early hours of Sunday October 14 and face the Sierra Leoneans the following day.
