GPL: WAFA decimate Hearts at Sogakope

A brace from Togolese import Komlan Agbegniadan and Charles Boateng’s half volley in between, handed WAFA SC the three points against league leaders Accra Hearts of Oak in a match day 23 fixture of the GPL on Saturday.

The hosts could have scored more but put their foot off the pedal after going 3-0 as early as 25 minutes at their favorite Sogakope Academy grounds.

The first goal was registered after three minutes when Emmanuel Boateng’s attempt at goal skewed towards an unmarked Komlan Agbegniadan inside the box and the Togo striker coolly finished off in style.

On 10 minutes, Boateng profited from a Robin Gnagne awkward back header and smashed in a volley from close range. His sixth goal in the GPL this season.

Agbeniadan scored again in the 25th minute after he was put through in the penalty area and with only goalkeeper Soulama Abdoulaye at his mercy, he planted the ball straight into the net.

In a match that the home side thoroughly dominated, no goal was produced in the second half with the academy boys squandering the chances they created.

WAFA, with the 3-0 victory, becomes the first team to beat Hearts of Oak away this season. The Phobians had gone a remarkable 11 games on the road without defeat.

WAFA striker Komlan Agbegniadan was adjudged man-of-the-match.

Seven more match day 23 fixtures are scheduled for Sunday, August 7.
