Schalke 04 complete loan move for Baba Rahman

Ghana international Baba Rahman has completed a season-long loan move from Chelsea to German Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04.

The 22-year-old passed his medicals on Sunday afternoon ahead of a second spell in the German league.

Head coach for the 2015 English Premier League champions, Antonio Conte, was earlier reported to have included the defender in his plans for the up-coming campaign after enduring a torrid debut season.

However, the left-back could not prove his mettle as he struggled to break into Conte’s plans during the pre-season.

Rahman, who signed a five-year deal for the ‘Blues’ from Augsburg last season, for more than $20m, will reunite with his former boss Markus Weinziel at Schalke.

He made 23 appearances for Chelsea in all competition.

Flying with the team

The 19-time capped Ghana international is scheduled to travel with his new teammates to Mittersill, a city in Austrian capital Salzburg where Schalke continue the next phase of their preseason preparations on Monday August 1.

Baba Rahman will be battling for a starting berth in the upcoming campaign with Sead Kolašinac and Dennis Aogo.

Figures

According to reports, Schalke 04 are paying Chelsea 500,000 euros as loan fee for one season. The Germans are said to have also secured a purchase option pegged at 17 million euros should Baba impress and decide to stay on after his loan spell.
