South African Television giants, SuperSport, have won the broadcast rights to telecast live the 2016 President’s Cup match between arch-rivals Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
The match comes off at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, July 1, 2016.
The two rival clubs have agreed to take a GHc50,000 appearance fee to contest for the trophy at stake.
July 1 is the day Ghana celebrates the attainment of its Republican status and in football circles, is specially marked with a ceremonial match organized by the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) in honour of the sitting President.
Last year, the two clubs clashed at the Accra Stadium in a game which ended in a stalemate after regulation time but it was the Phobians who snatch the coveted trophy at stake after a penalty shootout win.
This year, the new GHALCA administration led by Kudjoe Fianoo has introduced a novelty which matches two rival clubs against each other in a derby encounter while the Kotoko and Hearts of Oak clash headlines these rivalry games in Accra.
