Painstil granted bail in Police assault case

An Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Patricia Quansah has granted former Black Stars player John Paintsil bail in the sum of GH¢ 5,000 with one surety.

The defender is facing charges of assault of a police officer, causing harm, offensive conduct and threat of harm.

The incident occurred on May 25 when John Paintsil had honoured an invitation to the Police station where his wife, Richlove had filed a report that he had stolen her car.

Legal advisor to the embattled football star, Kojoga Adawudu has however rejected the charge, insisting his client never assaulted the Legon district police commander and that they will be happy to prove that in court.

The case has been adjourned to a month from today – July 14.

Paintsil, who last played for Maritzburg United, can now go ahead and travel out of the country for his planned three-day project dubbed “Paintsil Peace Kids Project (PPKP) Fiesta” billed for the Moses Mahama Stadium in South Africa.

The tour will start on 16 June in Umtata, Eastern Cape and finish on the match day 18 June 2016 and is open to children across the African continent under the theme: “We play for peace and road safety.”

The project is to accommodate more than 10,000 revellers with star-studded teams and entertainment line-up.
