July 22: Black Queens to face Germany in friendly

The Ghana FA has accepted an invitation for the senior national women’s team, Black Queens to play an international friendly with their counterparts from Germany on 22nd July.

The Germans are preparing their team for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, a competition the Black Queens failed to qualify for after getting crashed at home by Cameroon.

However the Queens, coached by Yusif Basigi, have an impending assignment of which the game will be of benefit to – the 2016 African Women’s Cup of Nations.

“Ghana was our first-choice opponents because we desperately wanted to test ourselves against an African team to round up our preparation for the Olympics.

“Their style of play is very similar to our first opposition at the games, Zimbabwe. We will contest the match using our entire 18-player Olympic squad,” says Doris Fitschen, the General Manager of Germany’s women team.

The international friendly has been scheduled to take place in Paderborn.

Germany are in a group with Zimbabwe, Australia and Canada at the Rio Olympics.
