Gyan-inspired Liberty beat Edubiase 2-0 in GPL delayed fixture

Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan’s presence appears to have given former club Liberty Professionals the extra edge to defeat New Edubiase in a difficult GPL fixture on Monday.

The match day 13 fixture originally fixed 24 hours earlier, had to be rescheduled due to a heavy downpour Sunday which rendered the Carl Reindolf field unplayable.

The hosts endured a frustrating opening half missing most chances created amidst having to endure playing on a soggy pitch just like Edubiase.

Attacker Edward Ebo Mends however made amends as he found the opener just before half time.

Gyan, the Shanghai SIPG forward who is back in Ghana nursing a recent injury, joined the half time pep talk in the dressing room to motivate the side to victory.

Liberty returned and played the second half with extra vigor much to the admiration of the home fans but left it very late to grab another goal to ensure snatching all three points from Edubiase.

In-form Bernard Arthur added the second with a beautiful volley also on the stroke of full-time to put the scores to bed at 2-0.

Liberty Professionals are now fifth on the league table level on points, 20, with sixth placed Berekum Chelsea but are above them by virtue of a superior head to head. Liberty have also played one game less due to a rescheduled fixture with CAF Confederation Cup campaigners Medeama SC.

New Edubiase United are in the bottom three with only 12 points from 13 games.
