West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) was made to pay for Kennedy Boateng’s early sending-off in a 2-0 loss to Bechem United in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.
The defender saw red after bringing down his man in the penalty box after 20 minutes resulting in a penalty which was converted by ex-Kotoko midfielder Aminu Mohammed for Bechem’s first goal. The guests couldn’t hold on as Francis Afriyie added to the tally to make it 2-0 in favour of the home team.
According to WAFA winger Samuel Tetteh, they were unlucky to have one player dismissed and that crumbled their chances of getting a good result away from home.
“It was a good game. We intended grabbing the maximum three points or a point at least but we were unlucky. The red card we had changed the game entirely,” Samuel Tetteh said.
The Sogakope lads who have been tagged as poor travelers have a number of factors revealed by the Black Stars winger as contributing factors to their pitiable record in away games.
“It is not easy to get good results away from home in football and we find it difficult to impose our play due to the condition of away pitches, not ruling out bad officiating at times.
“We were affected by the red card because it changed our game plan. It came early and we had to adjust our tactics and play to suit 10 men” Tetteh explained.
WAFA now lie 8th on the Ghana Premier League table with 14 points after losing 2-0 on match day 10 to Bechem United at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park.
