The newly-built Cape Coast Stadium will host the senior men’s football team, the Black Stars, for the first time in September, Ghana’s Sports Minister has hinted.
The Black Stars are scheduled to round up their 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a final group H game against the Amavubi of Rwanda at home on September 2.
According to Nii Lante Vanderpuije, the proposal which is subject to ratification is to satisfy the Black Stars’ crave for a quality playing field.
“The next Black Stars match will be played at the Cape Coast stadium but will consult the GFA on the decision.
“The last time we played at Accra Sports stadium, the players complained of the quality of the turf so we want to give them the best,” Vanderpuije told reporters after a brief handing over ceremony last Friday.
Meanwhile, top Ghana FA officials say they are open to having the Black Stars play in Cape Coast but will wait for the consultative discussion with the Sports Minister.
The Black Stars who top Group H of the qualifiers with 10 points from four games will travel to play Mauritius on June 5 before hosting the Amavubi at the 15,000-seater stadium.
