Morocco 0-4 Ghana: Maidens on track for fifth U-17 World Cup berth

Ghana’s Black Maidens Saturday, went rampant as they blew away Morocco with four unanswered goals in a second round first leg tie of the 2016 Fifa U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers in Rabat.

The Ghana U-17 girls showed no mercy to their Moroccan counterparts who were playing their first official game in history at that level.

Maidens made easy work of their hosts with three first half goals before cooling.off an easy ride with one more goal by Sandra Owusu Ansah in the 70th minute.

Mukarama Abdulai emerged a two-goal heroine as she slotted home the opener in the 5th minute with Rafiatu Alhassan scoring in between – the 15th minute of the encounter at the Complexe Sportif Moulay al Hassan.

Mukarama completed her brace with a 20th minute strike.

The results put the coach Evans Adotey girls in pole position to qualify for their fifth outing at the U-17 World Cup which will be hosted by Jordan later in the year.

Ghana holds the record of the best performance in a FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup. In 2012, the Black Maidens lost to France in the semi-finals but went ahead to beat Germany 1-0 in the third-place match.

Ghana remains the only African country–to date–to reach the semi-finals of this tournament.

Morocco will travel to Accra for the second leg on March 25.
