‘Bekoe was being disrespectful’ – Duncan explains

Asante Kotoko coach, David Duncan has explained that his touchline altercation with Sekondi Hasaacas’ Eric Bekoe last Friday was fuelled by the striker’s rude gestures towards him.

The two were spotted in a fierce verbal exchange after a throw-in was awarded Hasaacas in the match day 5 encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium. Both parties claim the other was at fault.

David Duncan was earlier reported by Bekoe to have insulted him during the game but the coach has debunked the claims.

Bekoe told reporters that Duncan called him to the sidelines and bombarded him with insults while the game was on.

He (Eric Bekoe) was being disrespectful to me. He was signaling to me some gestures and I didn’t know what that meant. But I know that seems to suggest that I talk too much” Duncan said.

“I asked him whether me, I talk too much with the gesture?” the coach added in reply to a question on him making a similar gesture to that of Bekoe’s.

The coach of the Porcupines has however slammed the claims of the former Asante Kotoko target man as being untrue and what really happened is what he has explained, stating anything contrary to his statements must be discredited.

Duncan was involved in a similar touchline controversy with attacking midfielder Kwame Boahene at the same venue in Kotoko’s match day three fixture against Medeama. He later labeled the player a diver.

Asante Kotoko beat Hasaacas 1-0, marking their first win in five games of the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League.
