“Kotoko to wrestle league title from Ashgold”

Asante Kotoko say they are “hopeful” of wrestling their lost league title from regional rivals AshantiGold in the upcoming 2015/16 season.

Although they finished second in the last campaign, Kotoko had a torrid season; battling relegation at some point after they were beleaguered with a legal tussle from bitter rivals Hearts of Oak over the qualification of their striker Obed Owusu when the two sides met in the match day 25.

“Our hope is to win the FA Cup and the League trophy and maybe the super cup. It’s not our target but rather our hope though anything can happen in football at any time but due to what we have put in, in terms of preparation and motivation, this is our hope – winning the league,” Operations manager of Kotoko, George Kennedy mentioned in an interview with Footy-Ghana.

The Porcupines warriors begin the season with a huge task of defeating academy boys WAFA at the Sogakope where they were defeated one nil in the second round of the league season. Kotoko plan to acquaint themselves with the Tema astroturf pitch before heading for their season opener.

“As part of our preparations with WAFA, we will be passing through Tema and have a training session on their astro turf before we move to Sogakope. Our match is on Saturday so we will take off from Tema on Friday and go and sleep one night and play the next day and come back,” he stated.

Academy boys WAFA host Kotoko in the first game of the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League at 3:00pm on Saturday. The game is live on SuperSport TV and other affiliated free to air local TV channels.
