Complacency caused our defeat to Dreams FC – J.E Sarpong

Ebusua Dwarfs got piped playing at home at the Cape Coast Robert Mensah Stadium as they lost their first match of the season on the opening day.

The Mysterious club got shocked by Dreams FC who were making their first appearance in the Ghana top-flight by a goal to nothing in the first half of the game.

This was their first loss in the Premier League since they last lost two 2-1 to New Edubiase on 20th Feb 2014.

Highly experienced coach, J.E Sarpong who handles the side has rued their lack of cutting edge up-front.

“We were too naive in front of goal, that caused us the problem. If we have had potent strikers up front, we could have done better.

“The expectations were high from the standpoint of the supporters. This is a team that has won so many matches and never lost a game in two years,” Sarpong said after the game.

The former Liberty trainer blamed their loss on complacency and said it is a wake-up call to them to get back to their old self.

“The complacency, coupled with the pressure that they wanted to show to their supporters caused this problem.

“For me, it is a wake up like I said; we shall improve on the performance. It wasn’t a very bad performance but we are disappointed.”

He further assured the supporters that different Dwarfs will be seen come next week when they play New Edubiase on match day two at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.

“I think the next match that we play; you will see that, there is a different attitude and different approach to the game.”
