Vanli set for permanent Hearts job

Hearts of Oak are set to announce the appointment of a substantive coach this week, Footy-Ghana.com reliably understands.

Goalkeepers’ coach Edward Ansah guided the club to end a turbulent season on interim basis following the exit of coach Herbert Addo in July.

The former shot-stopper managed to help the Phobians maintain their premiership status with the assistance of German-Turkish trainer Can Vanli who arrived for the final five games of the 2014/15 First Capital Plus Premier League.

Eddie Ansah recently resigned from his official role as keepers’ in order to apply for the head coach position.

“For administrative reasons, I had to follow the process. I have worked and I believe I am capable of handling the head coach job well so I want to be given the mandate,” he explained.

But Footy-Ghana.com sources have revealed that Vanli, a previous member of the Turkey backroom for the 2002 World Cup stands favourite among about 15 applicants for the Hearts of Oak head coach job.

German coach Ernst Middendorp who has previously worked with the club was strongly linked with a return but his recent appointment by South African club Free State Stars in a one-year deal puts him out of the race.

Twelve other expatriates who have sent in their applications include Petre Ggiu, Roberto Landi, Cenk Ozcan, Desabre Sebastien, Patrick De Wilde, Momcilo Medic, Zdravko Logarusic, Coach Singh, Jiri Mika, Dietmar Demuth, Mufid Zimic and former Aduana Stars coach Aristica Cioaba.

Footy-Ghana is informed that the appointment of the new coach could be made this Wednesday.
