SHOCKER: AshGold release Nuhu brothers

Dethroned Ghana Premier League champions Ashanti Gold have released twin brothers, Fuseini and Alhassan Nuhu from their contracts.

The brothers who joined the club on three-year deals from New Edubiase United prior to the start of the 2015/16 season are surprise inclusions to the list of departures from the Obuasi-based side which managed to survive relegation scare at the end of the season.

A club insider who spoke to Footy-Ghana revealed the decision to part ways with the twins was sanctioned Friday following a recommendation by the technical team.

The source said the twins failed to meet the expectations of the bench in their first outing coupled with supposed problems encountered when the technical team decides to start one of the brothers in a game ahead of the other.

Fuseini, a forward, scored three goals despite missing only one match in the 30-game campaign (made 27 starts)

The younger of the Nuhu brothers, Alhassan, who plays in central midfield managed 17 starts from a total 24 appearances. Alhassan scored once in the season.

After receiving some cash injection from new headline sponsors Betway Ghana, AshGold are back on a restructuring drive which is expected to bring in new talents for another push for the title.

Long-serving goalkeeper Fatau Dauda is no longer in the books of the Miners after announcing his decision not to renew his stay, like wise full-back Augustine Sefa and midfielder Anthony Yerful who has moved on to sign for newly promoted Elmina Sharks.

Lanky centre-back Godfred Rockson, Footy-Ghana is informed, has also had his contract terminated after just a season with AshantiGold.
