League leaders All Stars were undone by a plucky Asante Kotoko side in week 17 of the Ghana Premier League, but there was also a slipup by Hearts of Oak on Wednesday.
All Stars, who entered the matchday on the back of a lone-goal win over Berekum Chelsea over the weekend, suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Kotoko at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi. Amos Frimpong fetched the solitary strike which moved the Porcupine Warriors back to the second position following a temporary drop.
Hearts, meanwhile, settled for a 1-1 draw with Liberty Professionals at the Accra Sports Stadium, with Cosmos Dauda and Bernard Arthur cancelling out each other.
At Dormaa, Aduana Stars picked a comfortable 3-0 triumph over Ebusua Dwarfs, courtesy of goals from Yahaya Mohammed, Zakaria Mumuni and Samuel Adams.
Goalkeeper Philemon McCarthy was the hero at the Dawu Park, uncharacteristically finding his name on the score sheet, in addition to an Eric Gawu effort, as Dreams picked a 2-0 home win over bottom-placed New Edubiase.
Inter Allies’ poor away showing continue as goals from Sadick Adams and Nana Tei Horsu condemned them to a 2-0 reversal to Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park.
There was, however, good news for reigning champions Ashanti Gold, which recorded their third win of the season with a 2-0 triumph over Techiman City at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium. Shafiu Mumuni found the back of the net twice.
Week 17 action continues on Thursday when Hasaacas lock horns with Bechem United at the Sekondi-Essipong Sports Stadium.
Wafa’s home clash with Medeama has been postponed due to the latter’s Caf Confederation Cup encounter with Algerian outfit MO Bejaia on Wednesday.
