Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Chairman, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has pledged to resist any attempts to amend the current term-limit rules for the GFA Presidency amid reports of potential changes by the administration led by Kurt Okraku.
Speculation has emerged that Okraku, who secured re-election in 2023 and is currently serving his second term, may seek to revise the GFA statutes to abolish the existing two-term cap. Under current regulations, Okraku’s tenure would end in 2027.
In an interview with Graphic Sports, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe underscored his commitment to safeguarding the rule, which he originally championed to ensure merit-based leadership within the GFA.
“I won’t allow anyone to tinker with the GFA statute after the sacrifices I made to ensure that the position is based on merit through elections,” Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe declared.
“Positions tend to corrupt people in this country, and when you extend the term, the corruption becomes even worse.”
The former GFA head, credited with introducing the two-term limit, reiterated that any move to alter this policy would be met with strong opposition.
“I was the architect of the two-term limit for the FA presidency, and I will not allow anyone to topple the statute to serve their personal agenda.”
“If they attempt to change the tenure, I will fight it with all my strength. It was my recommendation that compelled the FA to adopt this policy.”
